Finding a Passion
George I  George II  George III

Despite a Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diagnoses, George developed an enduring passion for drawing and painting in later life. Generally aware of his impaired mobility, dexterity and concentration, through art George found a way to refocus. Having made a living as a professional painter and decorator, he relished the ability  to acquire new skills. He practised drawing between sessions, had a thirst for experimenting with new techniques and his admiration for L.S. Lowry led him to explore Impressionism and colour theory.
Watercolours and techniques such as salt spatter are examples of art works produced in sessions. George drew the caricatures below after studying Lowry’s depiction of people and animals, humorously illustrating a shared empathy for people caught in a cycle of drudgery and poverty.
